The American Legion annually honors The
American Legion Eagle Scout of the Year at its National Convention.
The winner of the competition receives an $10,000 scholarship and the
three runners-up are each awarded $2,500 scholarships.
The Department of Nebraska chooses an Eagle
Scout of the Year in March, who will then represent the Department in
national American Legion competition in May. The Nebraska Eagle
Scout of the Year is given a $500 cash award, while second place
receives a $300 cash award and third place receives a $200 cash award.
Eagle Scouts selected as Nebraska Eagle
Scouts of the Year can enter competition each year as long as they meet
all eligibility requirements. However, when a Department Eagle
Scout of the Year is selected as National American Legion Eagle Scout of
the Year or Runner-up, then they can no longer enter state competition.
