Current membership is at 28,868 paid members with a goal of 31,000 members by May 2018. View the updated Department Membership Report dated May 31, 2018.

Check Writing Policy: Effective August 1, 2018, the Department will no longer issue checks on a monthly basis to Posts for the post share of dues for members who renew their membership online at National Headquarters. This change is necessary due to increasing costs of bank service charges for checks. Checks to the Posts will be distributed in January and July during the membership year. If a Post feels this policy put them in financial turmoil, the Post Commander can send in an exemption request, with a full justification of the financial hardship, to the Department Adjutant for consideration. PCI Book Is In: The Department received its Department Directory book from PCI. Those that ordered their directory should expect to receive it in the mail any day now.

Department of Nebraska American Legion Commander Jim Costello

Welcome to the Nebraska American Legion website. We have over 33,000 Legionnaires throughout the great State of Nebraska. Within our website you will find information on our Department Leadership, Programs, and meetings at both the Department and National level.

My goal is for every member to start a Department of Nebraska BUCKET LIST. We have all talked about having a bucket list of things we want to do. Well, here is an opportunity for you to complete a BUCKET LIST for The American Legion. Not sure what to put in your American Legion bucket list? Here are a few suggestions to get you started:

1. Membership-Renew/Retain/Recruit
2. Completed Consolidated Post Report
3. Donate to the Child Welfare Foundation
4. Donate to the Temporary Financial Assistance Program
5. Donate to the National Emergency Fund
6. Sponsor/and or sign up a student to attend Boys State
7. Conduct a Post/District Oratorical Contest
8. Sign up a student to attend Junior Law Cadet
9. Present a School Talk/Flag Program in your community
10. Develop an American Legion Public Awareness Program within your community
